I'm in here alot making copies for PTA, so I get to talk to Dawn often. Since I won't be here next year, I had to do her door too!

Welcome back! Here is my Door #2 for Teacher Appreciation Week. Yes, I strayed from the UP theme, but this teacher LOVES, LOVES, LOVES soccer. I purchased a decorative beach net from the Dollar Store to make the goal. The strings are hot glued together on the edges to make the goal frame. It worked out perfect! And I used the trick (that I finally figured out in January!) of enlarging my Martha Stewart Grass edge punch to make the grass.

Rumors are flying all over the place! The first rumor is TODAY is Dustin Pike's (aka the amazing and talented illustrator of Doodle Dragon Studios) 40th birthday! It's also rumored his favorite colors are blue and black. And another rumor is that Ollie the Monkey is his favorite character. Gasp!!! You're not suppose to have favorites! Dudley the Dragon would be heartbroken, not to mention all the other characters!
Either way, I believe all the rumors are TRUE! So I made this card and combined all Dustin's favorites. Hoping his 40's are wonderfully wild! 30's are so yesterday.
In celebration of Dustin's birthday, he has released a birthday set of monkeys. (See! The rumors ARE true!) Look!

Okay, I'm cheating. This is a project I did last Christmas, but it's one of my favorites! So I thought I'd share it again. I'm sooooo ready to get on a plane and go somewhere warm and fun! Not just because of the cold and snow, but it would be amazing to take a much needed break from reality.
Wait... for the record... this for the new Doodle Dragon Studios Red & Green Challenge. Make a project using one of Dustin's DDS images and incorporate the red and green theme. Then post your masterpiece on to the DDS challenge by Sunday, December 9th.
To make
the palm leaves, simply put the lei out flat, then fold it in half.
There should be four layers. Then tie a ribbon (I used brown raffia) in
the middle. Thread through your ornaments and tag. Then tie to the
bottle. This is also super cute when you attach it to an A&W
Rootbeer 2 liter (instead of pina colada mixer). It looks like a real
palm tree.

It's almost time for the Scrapbook USA Expo! Circle, circle, circle the dates for September 28 & 29. As you know, I LOVE working the VIP Lounge at the show every spring and fall. I love mingling with all the amazing ladies (and a few men) and soaking in their creativity. I can't wait to see all the "regulars" and all the new VIPs who will party with me in 49 days. FLASH.. Ah Ah ♫♫♪♪♫! Well it took a week to show off, but I did it! I made a card from each hero from Dustin Pike/Doodle Dragon Studios new Super Hero set. I don't know what it is, but I'm strangely addicted to this set.
Now to start working on the Cards for Care card drive Dustin is sponsoring at the Scrapbook Expo in Utah this year. I'm thinking of making some card kits from the Super Heroes set. That is... if I break out my Silhouette Cameo machine and figure out how to work it. I've had it since November! Rumor is it can cut out digi images perfect! Don't ask me why I haven't jumped all over this?! I must really love my Tim Holtz scissors.

I don't know about your school, but we start in 21 days. Time to begin switching my brain from summer to school. Who wouldn't want Mr. Olie Monkey for their Science teacher? I'm in!
Okay, I saved the best for last... the secretaries door! This is personally my all time favorite of the Teacher/Faculty Appreciation Week doors I have created. We have a tradition that the PTA Executive Board takes care of the office administration. Who appreciates the admin more than the PTA? No one! Usually, the PTA President takes the Principal's door, the PTA President-Elect takes the Vice Principal's door, and the PTA secretary takes the secretaries door. But once again, I swapped doors with the PTA secretary, so I could do this door. The beauty of being the TA Door Coordinator and PTA Leadership VP, oh and the fact that I LOVE doors.
Remember in March when I made a card for our head secretary that is retiring this year? I wanted to tie it all in together. She's been with our school since it opened 15 years ago. The other two secretaries are staying, but I will miss Denise with her smiling face. Our secretaries definitely keep our school under control.
Little additions to this door... amazingly, I found butcher paper that was a dull red color for the bricks. I cut them all the same height and length, and rounded the edges with my Chomper. Then staggered each layer. The giraffe's mane is yarn. The monkey has an added foliage layer on him with a slightly different green butcher paper. And the flag has glue dots every so many inches to create the waving in the wind effect.
Next year will be my family's last year at our school. I only have one more year of decorating doors. So sad, on so many levels.
We're at the half way mark! Today's Teacher Appreciation Week door is the Small Groups (Autistic class) teachers door. There is 1 main teacher with 3 aides for 14 boys (grades 4-6). These ladies are amazing and so patient with our Small Groups students.
In March, the Small Groups classes (we have 2) won the Pirate Ice Cream Party. I've never done a Small Groups party so this was a new experience. The students were so excited! After serving the ice cream, one cute little girl grabbed my hand and pulled me close to her. She wouldn't let me go. I held her hand for several minutes. Anytime she would feel my hand slightly letting go, she would hold it even tighter. The party was over and I had to leave. She still wouldn't let go and it was hard for me to let go! She was so cute! One of the aides came over to take my spot. The students were very set in their likings, but sweet and so polite. Both the students and the teachers inspire me to be a better, more patient and caring person. Thanks for being part of our school!
Here's Teacher Appreciation Door #2 for my daughter's teacher. All three of my children have had Mr. Madruga. He's the coolest teacher ever! We love him. Since this is our last year having him, I asked his Room Mom if I could trade her for another faculty door. Thankfully she agreed.
I had several different ideas, but my daughter wanted this one. Mr. Madruga loves to eat bananas... I'm talking several throughout the school day. What a good example! I even managed to throw in the globe to tie in the Teacher Appreciation Week theme. But a jungle is technically part of the world too. Just saying.
Apparently, April is a very popular month to have a birthday! I made this card for my brother who just turned 50. For real? 50? Monkeys...how did that happen? Thankfully, he's my OLDER brother, so I have a few years before I earn that birthday number.
Oh my! Dustin Pike's - Doodle Dragon Studios Blogiversary freebie digi monkey is AWESOME!!! Unlike my timing, Dustin's was perfect. While playing in Disneyland, one of my favorite people in the world had a birthday and I missed wishing her a happy birthday. She is beautiful, stunning and very funny. She brightens any room she walks in and always has a smile (and a hug) to share. This one is for you, Kinsey! Happy birthday! Thanks for making the world a better place. I love you!
Operation Write Home had a simple sketch challenge on their blog. Simple is right up my alley today! My husband travels for his job. I thought this might be a sweet card for one of my children to write in, then sneak it into his suitcase. A pleasant surprise when he gets to his destination!
I enlarged the tie on Ollie the Monkey to print it out. Look... it's matchy, matchy.
We have a program at our school called the Knowledge Bowl. The Knowledge Bowl is a competition for children in 3rd-6th grades. It is an opportunity for them to study a specific subject and then to compete with other schools throughout the district. This year's the theme is Science. Practices started in January and competition is in March. The students study for hours and hours, preparing for the competition. So I thought it might be fun for the PTA to cheer them onto victory with this treat.
Okay, I have another confession. I'm a big fan of the Twlight series, but not in the "cougar" way. Robert Pattinson is not what I had envisioned my Edward to be. Still... I'm Team Edward.
In honor of today's new release of Breaking Dawn - Part 1 movie (my least favorite of this series), I made this page. This IS one of my favorite quotes of Twilight. In no way do I believe in the use of drugs, but the thought of someone being so wrapped up in their attraction, makes me melt.
