DDS Anything But A Card Challenge

Are you ready for another Doodle Dragon Studios Challenge? Are you ready for Christmas? Do you need a little break to do something crafty? Then join the Doodle Dragon Studios Design Team in an Anything But A Card Challenge. Be sure to link it before Sunday, December 25th (Merry Christmas!).

This project is dedicated to all those who are over having a "white Christmas" and are dreaming of "just another day in paradise." For the record, I'm first in line! I know it sounds funny that I'm not a snow fan, living in Utah with the greatest snow on earth, but it's true. Snow is pretty in the mountains and on Christmas Eve/Day. Other than that, it can stay high up in the mountains until I want to come visit it. When we lived in San Diego I didn't miss the snow a bit. Especially when I was Christmas shopping in my shorts!

To make the palm leaves, simply put the lei out flat, then fold it in half. There should be four layers. Then tie a ribbon (I used brown raffia) in the middle. Thread through your ornaments and tag. Then tie to the bottle. This is also super cute when you attach it to an A&W Rootbeer 2 liter (instead of pina colada mixer). It looks like a real palm tree.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

Supplies:

Counting Our Blessings & Box Tops

Once again, it's time for another Box Tops contest at our school. So this month we're..."Counting Our Blessings & Box Tops!" I thought Dustin Pike's/Doodle Dragon Studios juggling monkey would be perfect for this contest. This picture doesn't really show it, but he's 2 1/2" feet tall and the number are really fuchsia colored like Box Tops (not red). Silly camera. Next contest I'll be sure to make it bulletin board style so it stands out better.

Okay, it's bragging time. Our school totally rocks! So far this year we have earned $3636 with Box Tops! In addition, we won our local Macey's grocery store school competition AND we won our local Walmart school competition which means we won another 2000 Bonus Box Tops (worth $200.00) and a $100 gift card! Let's just say I'm one proud Box Tops lady! Thanks to Dustin, my contest flyers and bulletin boards are super cute and well branded!

It's time for another Doodle Dragon Studios Challenge! This challenge's theme is ANYTHING GOES! Really, you have absolutely no reason not to jump in and join the fun!

New to Doodle Dragons? (*gasp*) It's alright, we all have to start somewhere. Dustin Pike (aka Doodle Dragon Studios) is amazing! He has plenty of freebies on his site. So be sure to join our challenge!

Just pick a Dustin Pike/Doodle Dragon Studios image and create something...anything! Then post it to the Doodle Dragon Studios - Pike's Playground Challenge by Sunday, November 13th.

Remember me mentioning the M&M's long story last month? Well, here's the short story. This is the project I wanted to use them for. I FINALLY completed it today! The only problem is it took me SIX big bags of delicious M&M's to do it. I confess...I ate them all! I have a weakness for peanut M&M's. Okay fine...and candy. You see right through me! So if you need me, I'll be on my treadmill this month. :(

A Little Corny...

Where did the week go? I had mentioned I was going to post daily Fall projects due to a challenge given to me. Sorry the days slipped away! I made a set of these corny guys and took pictures earlier in the week. I immediately ate the candy corns without waiting to download the pictures. Let's just say I polished off the whole bag of these yummy (are they really yummy? or just nostalgic? I think it's B) candy corn. The pictures were terrible! So off I went to the store to buy yet another bag. (Just wait until you hear my owl project story, but that's another day). I was very tempted to eat them again. But I resisted! Finally! These are super easy, yet super fun!

Here's a close up.

DDS SpookTastic Challenge

Did you pick up this awesome Halloween freebie from Dustin Pike/Doodle Dragon Studios? If not, be sure to go snatch her up before she vanishes!

Snow fell here in Utah this week. Quite depressing. But it does mean Halloween is just around the corner! It did helped me get in the mood for this week's Doodle Dragon Studios Challenge, so I guess there is one positive to it. Now it's your turn to get in the Halloween mood. Select your favorite Doodle Dragon Studios image and create something SpookTacular with Halloween colors! Then link it to the challenge by Sunday, October 18th.

This cutie is actually 4 layers, if you count her vellum wings.

One of my followers challenged me (thanks Cari) create 31 Days of Halloween like I did for 14 Days of Valentines. If I would quit eating the treats before I finish the project that would be fantastic!!! Obviously, it won't be the 31 Days of Halloween, but check back to see the Halloween/Fall projects I come up with this month.

Kookies with the K-9 Contest

Dustin Pike/Doodle Dragon Studios does it again! Don't you love the AWESOME dog?! It's perfect for our school's Kookies with the K-9 contest! This is the display that greets you as you walk in the main doors.

What's a Kookies with the K-9 contest, you ask? As you may remember, I am the Ongoing Fundraising Coordinator at our school. The goal of this contest is to get the students to actually turn in all the ongoing fundraising items they have collected over the summer. Points are given to each thing such as Box Tops, Campbell's Labels for Education, My Coke Rewards, ink cartridges, linking store cards to our school, joining the PTA, parents "Like" our PTA facebook page and becoming a "Follower" on the PTA blog. Plus weekly bonus point opportunities. The top three classrooms with the most points at the end of the contest wins a Cookie Party with our city policeman and his trusty K-9 companion. At the party, the police officer will give a short assembly of a K-9's job on the police force then eat cookies! The kids are freaking out over this contest! What's crazy is the older grades are more excited about this contest than the younger grades.

Each week the class that earns the most points (for the past week) receive this "Top Dog" trophy in their classroom all week and have a special "Top Dog" week winner poster to hang up in the hall. The classroom/teacher also receives a big shopping bag full of school supplies. (Weird, I didn't take a picture of that yet). The classrooms are really funny about their posters. They will keep them up all year.

Here's one of our 5th grade classes proudly showing their posters. They won two weeks in a row.

Oddly enough...the 5th grade class next door won the next week. We still have two more weeks before the contest is over.

The awesome K-9 with cookies image is on all my weekly flyers and Box Tops collection sheet too. LOVE IT! Thanks Dustin!

Operation Write Home Blog Hop with Christmas Candy

Ho! Ho! Ho! Thanks for stopping by today! The Operation Write Home Christmas Blog Hop has been amazing so far!

Can you believe it's only 85 days until Christmas? I am lucky to be surrounded by family and friends during the holidays. But I know how hard it is to have loved ones far away. My sister served in the Air Force and my brother in the Army. I remember we would count the days until we were to see each other again. I support Operation Write Home because I am thankful for the sacrifices so many families give to our country. Hopefully, my cards will put a smile on someone's face, making the miles and days seem closer to those they love.

Saving the Page

Dustin Pike at Doodle Dragon Studios just released this froggie freebie. I needed a bookmark badly. I didn't want to borrow another Book Fair bookmark from my daughter. This froggie looked like his was holding down the page. Worked perfect and just in time!

Stars & Stripes Challenge

It's time for another Doodle Dragon Studios - Pike Playground challenge. This week is your challenge is to create a project using a Doodle Dragon Studios image with stars and stripes. I originally entered the witch card below for my entry, but as the days grew closer and I realized the challenge would be posted on 9-11 I knew I had to make another card. 9-11 changed all of our lives. I will always remember that day, as I'm sure you will too.

Where was I on that September day? I was home getting my son ready to go to school when I flipped on the TV. I wasn't sure I should send him to school or keep him home. I sent him. I kept my preschooler home upstairs with happy Blues Clues. I was glued to the TV the rest of the day, holding my new baby daughter tightly in my arms wondering what kind of world she was entering into.

My husband was preparing to go to the airport for a business trip. Then all the planes were grounded. Our house is in the flight path of landing at Salt Lake City airport. It was eerie to see the skies go quiet and equally strange to watch the planes start streaking the sky again three days later.

This morning my husband boarded a plane for another business trip. Hoping all the "chatter" is just chatter with no ill results on the anniversary of 9-11.

I'm proud to be American. I am grateful for the land I live in and the freedoms I have. God bless the USA!

Supplies:
Doodle Dragon Studios image
EK Success jumbo star punch
Cuttlebug embossing folder - star
Doodlebug Designs Inc.- paper
American Crafts cardstock
Star brad
Pop dots

On a MUCH lighter note...when Dustin released the Witch 11 set I immediately did this card. Do images talk to you like..."Pick me! Pick me!" Okay, so they do for me. I love all of the images Dustin creates, but there is usually one or two in the set that I'm just drawn to instantly. This witchy was my "one" this time. The short of it...she just returned home from an amazing date.

Supplies:
Doodle Dragon Studios image - Witches 11 set
American Crafts - paper, cardstock & ribbon
Pop dots

Now it's your turn to create a project (using a Doodle Dragon Studio's image). Be sure to post it to Doodle Dragon Studios - Pike's Playground by Sunday, September 18th.

Doodle Dragon Studios and the Box Tops Lady

Yahoo! School's back in session! Remember when I said I would be using Doodle Dragon Studios as the Box Tops Lady? Here's the proof! Dustin Pike released this cute bear licking his ice cream right before school let out. I knew I had to use it for my summer Box Tops contest! I found this huge, adorable 53" bear at Costco. One random lucky student who turns in a completed Box Tops collection sheet will win him! Then one student from each grade will win a $10 gift certificate to a delicious ice cream treatery. Here is the poster that is placed around the school (11x17 paper). And bear image is on the Box Tops collection sheet. Dustin does it again!!!! Perfect DDS image for the contest!

I'm soooo excited for September 2nd when the huge bear is awarded!

P.S. Not only is this bear tall, but he's extremely huggable! He wears a size 3X shirt.

MIA, but far from MIA

Okay, I've been MIA here on my blog, but I've been far from MIA preparing for the new school year. This year I am the PTA Leadership VP and the Ongoing Fundraising Coordinator (which means I will be aka the Box Tops Lady (my favorite!) and over Campbell's Labels for Education, My Coke Rewards, Give 'em Five program, ink/toner/cell phone recycling, store cards, Tyson Project A+ and Chick-Fil-A Nights. I personally love Ongoing Fundraising! There's something about beating previous year's earnings that I enjoy.

I took last year off from the Ongoing Fundraising Coordinator PTA position because I had a full time job at Provo Craft, a big church calling, three kids who are heavily involved and a husband who travels. This year things have lightened up...no job (this is a good thing), now I am the Eagle Scout Advancement Specialist in our ward (we have 60 young men in our Troop/Team/Crew), my son went off to college (missing him and my Friday Nights watching him under the football lights), my daughters are involved and my husband still travels the world. I can breathe better this year!

Whew...that was more than you wanted to read! As the PTA Leadership VP, I was in charge of decorations for our Back to School Night. I must confess I was a little sad when the PTA President said she wanted to have a Dr. Seuss theme this year. I usually make all sorts of fun things from Dustin's Doodle Dragon Studios images. But not this year, no fear though...I'll use DDS as the Box Tops Lady. Anyway, here's Thing 1 & Thing 2 that I enlarged and paper pieced together. They are almost 4" tall! I also made a huge Cat in the Hat and Fox in Socks, but I didn't get a picture of them. Originally Thing 2 was on the opposite wall with the Volunteer Table that night, but I moved him to the glass once it was over. Get it? Thing 1 - join PTA. Thing 2 - volunteer your time!

Hello July...

Hello July,

No offense, but where did June go? It went way too fast and now your here. June was such a crazy blur with graduation, swim team every morning, cheer practice, tumbling, swim training, camp, Youth Conference, PTA, college orientation, life, sleep and lots of rainy days. I am officially requesting a DO OVER. So I'm going to start summer new. I'm taking a vacation from my blog (without guilt) to go have fun with my family and friends. Hopefully Crafty Mojo will come back to me and we can whip up some super fun projects with Doodle Dragon Studios images. I promise to come back...

Maybe you could suggest to my followers to leave me some love that they stopped by while I am playing? I'll have a fun giveaway for someone when I get done enjoying Summer. Just have them leave a comment on this post on what they are doing this summer to make it memorable.

Thanks July for coming and bringing Sunshine with you!

DDS It's a Boy Thing Challenge

I've decided to do a little twist on the new Doodle Dragon Studios challenge this time. Instead of a card, I chose to do a treat! These are yummy caramel apples from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Yeah, M&M caramel apples are my favorite. I'm so glad Dudley looks good with it!

This week's DDS challenge is "It's a Boy Thing!" which means you can do anything like Father's Day, masculine birthday, a baby boy...whatever boy creative thing you want to do. Then post it over on the Doodle Dragon Challenge by Sunday, June 12th.

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory (in our area) does these really cool caramel apples with school logos on them. They even do high schools in their school colors too. In the past I've talked alot about BYU. Now it's time to talk about the University of Utah aka "The U". There's a huge, heated rivalry between the two. If you live in Utah, you pretty much have to choose a team (BYU vs U), one or the other, even if you're not interested, you have to pick one. We've always been BYU, but since my son will be attending the U in the fall we're switching teams. What guy wouldn't want this delicious, team spirit apple?

Weird...this is the same exact bear as above except I put a graduation hat on him. These make for great teacher gifts too.

I've given you ideas for Father's Day, team spirit, graduation, and a teacher present. Let's see what you can come up with!

lisastuf said...

What an adorable card! I love Dustin's images also. I just recently found him.
You did a great job putting together this cute digi with the patriotic card!
Lisa H.

I made this card with my grandpa in mind. He passed away several years ago, but I still miss him dearly. Grandpa served in the Army in WW2. He traveled to many countries during the war. While in Russia, he was a member of the oxygen generation. His job was to make oxygen for the pilots. In his scrapbook he says, "The pilots told me we made the best tasting oxygen in the world. They said it tasted like ice cream. The reason was simple. We would draw off a big bucket of liquid oxygen and mix our ice cream whip up in there, and make ice cream for ourselves. I guess the flavor must have gotten into the oxygen." I can still hear his chuckle as he talked about this.

Thank you to all those who have served, are serving, and who will serve to protect this great country!
